Gao Yaojie to Seek Political Asylum in the U.S.

Update: Dr. Gao Yaojie confirmed that she has not applied for political asylum.

Unconfirmed reports said 82-years-old retired Dr. Gao Yaojie is about to seek political asylum in the U.S. She left China in secret with the help of ChinaAid and U.S. Government officials.

At this CECC Roundtable, award-winning HIV/AIDS activist Dr. Gao Yaojie will give a first-hand account of her work in HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and treatment in Henan province, the epicenter of the 1990s HIV/AIDS epidemic in China. Dr. Gao has faced continual harassment for her work and has fled to the United States where she is seeking refuge.
